Financialization and income inequality: bringing class struggle back in

Financialization and rising income inequality are two of the most pronounced economic developments recent decades, there is increasing evidence that these trends somehow related. However, explanations this link still limited, pay little attention to workers themselves. As a result, impact financialization on appears at as an unfortunate side-effect. This article takes different approach by investigating both from within historical development class struggle in United States economy. It shows problems 1970s provided impetus for were closely related escalating conflicts between labor capital, which state served increasingly important terrain struggle. Viewed perspective, less unexpected outcome more its very raison d’etre.
